Columbariums are being installed at the Bristow City Cemetery. A Columbarium is an above-grade structure designed for the interment of cremated remains. The columbarium unit is usually two-sided for efficiency with numbered rows and columns identifying each individual niche. Because the cemetery is getting full to its capacity, five columbarians are being installed. The columbariums were funded by private donations/foundations. Bristow is the smallest community in the state to have these columbariums installed at its cemetery. Each columbarium will be a size of one foot by one foot wide and one foot deep and will hold 2 cremated remains. The cost of one of the niches' is a lot less that an actual burial plot at the cemetery. Billy Ledbetter, with the City of Bristow, said they had poured five feet of concrete, re-enforced with rebar under each column as each unit weighs over 5,000 pounds and are made out of solid granite. According to Ledbetter, there will be five columns with 312 niches. Since the funds for the columbariums came soley from donations, the city was only out the cost of the rebar, concrete and the lumber for the frames to pour the concrete. Donny Adney donated his time to pour the concrete. Future plans include the installation of sidewalks and benches which too will be fully funded by private donations.
