Each year, the American Legion, Sons of the Legion, and American Legion Auxiliary of Post 126 in Bristow gift some veterans’ families food baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This year, the groups elected to distribute the Thanksgiving baskets on Saturday, Nov. 12, following Veterans Day.
On Nov. 12, veterans and auxiliary members met eight of the families at the American Legion building, located at 131 West 8th Avenue, to disseminate food baskets and share support and encouragements with those families and fellow comrades. Additionally, veterans delivered the baskets to two families unable to meet at the Legion. Thanksgiving food baskets included a variety of holiday food items: turkey, dressing, corn, green beans, pumpkin pie, whipped cream, and a five-pound bag of potatoes.
In a nod to their commitment to honor all those who have served the country and their families, Legion Post 126 family organizations plan to gift several families food baskets for Christmas as well. In addition to the food baskets, the groups will present three families with gifts for the children or grandchildren in their care this holiday season.
According to Nanci Galatian of the Legion Auxiliary, American Legion 1st Vice Commander James Russell, Sons’ Commander Greg Galatian, and Juanita Stark and Marjeyn Schindlbeck Mayes of the Legion Auxiliary represented the organizations during the Thanksgiving giftings.
