Bristow Garden Club excitedly plans to host an inaugural “Growing Community Festival” in March, which members hope to make an annual event. The festival will center on community and focus on topics and activities related to gardening and farming.
Presently, farming and gardening topics such as produce preservation like canning and freezing as well as raising dairy goats for collecting, storing, and using raw milk to build a more self-sustainable, healthy home and lifestyle will be presented during the festival.
At this time, Bristow Garden Club members also hope to include presentations on herb, vegetable, and fruit cultivation, composting, soil and water conservation, beekeeping, pollinators, and more; however, as the festival and gardening are community centric, the club strives to source all resources, including speakers and presenters, from within the community.
Most importantly, Bristow Garden Club wants anyone from the interested or novice gardener to the master gardener and seasoned farmer to attend, build connections, and share a fun day of activities together. One member expressed why she finds importance in connecting and sharing, saying “As we grow together and build more self-sustaining lives, we grow healthier not just as individuals and families but as a community and country. Who doesn’t want to be healthier and more self-assured that our food and the things we put into our bodies are safe to consume? Please join us. We’d love to learn and share with you!”
The Growing Community Festival is set for March 11 at Bristow VFW Post 3656. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $5 by cash or check only, which includes lunch. Attendees may also purchase raffle tickets at the event for the chance to win a Green-Stalk.
Anyone interested in being a speaker or offering a presentation may contact Stevie Ruggles at 707-472-7682 or message Bristow Garden Club’s Facebook page.
