The Woodland Crown: A new disc golf course for Bristow coming to completion soon

Bristow’s City Park is about to get a whole lot livelier with The Woodland Crown, a brand-new 18-hole disc golf course just in time for the cooling months ahead. This grassroots gem is a testament to what happens when a tightknit community rallies around a shared love for fun and the outdoors. At the heart of it all is Joshua Craig, who is full of disc golf wisdom is turning things around in sport and entertainment for Bristow.

The idea for The Woodland Crown came from local disc golfers tired of slogging through the old, soggy 9-hole course. They teamed up, pitched the plan to the city council, and raised $22,000 through donations from Bristow’s businesses and players. Volunteers kept costs low, proving this town’s got heart. Joshua, the mastermind behind the design, brings 30 years of disc golf passion to the table. “I used to play a makeshift course here in the ‘90s” Joshua stated. Now living in Muskogee with his Bristowraised wife, Regenna, Joshua’s designed courses in Henryetta and Haskell through his company, DiscLexic Design. As an Innova Disc Golf Ambassador and Oklahoma Disc Golf Foundation board member, he’s a big name in Oklahoma’s disc golf scene.

Spanning up to 5,562 feet with a shorter 4,134-foot option, The Woodland Crown mixes belevation changes, lake views, and tree-lined challenges for players of all skill levels. “We kept it bnatural, just clearing some cedars and steering clear of the lake’s shoreline,” Joshua says, ensuring minimal environmental impact. Poison ivy’s been zapped, and wildlife’s protected, too.

The course is low-maintenance, needing just regular mowing and some TLC from local players. The community’s all in, with folks thrilled about a new way to enjoy the park and draw visitors.

The Bristow Open at The Woodland Crown on August 23 could spark a regional disc golf network with Stroud and Sapulpa. Joshua, who also runs Backpacks for Babies to support foster kids, sees this as Bristow’s chance to shine. Joshua said and I agree “It’s about bringing people together.”

Grab your best disc and head out for some fresh air and fresh fun, with family, friends andcommunity for a good hearted good time!
