Where History and Humanities meet

When is the last time you spent time with Bristow young people? If it's been a while, you are missing out. The American spirit is alive and strong in many Bristow families and the activities of area youth reflect this powerful love of America. One such example is the Bristow Historical Society's Art Show which is currently on display at the Bristow Public Library. Twenty-two young artists participated in this show and their work will be on display through the end of the month. Prize winners included high school artists Asher Smith, Kamryn Walker, and Javan Greco. Winners in the middle school level were Trey Evans, Riley Braden and Hadassah Greco. Honorable mention went to high school artist Rylan Badgwell and middle school artist Tallas Miller. The artwork will be on exhibit through the end of June at the City Library so swing by and enjoy these 'views of freedom' as presented by local artists.

Another example of the American spirit in our youth was a presentation which occurred at the Bristow City Library on Wednesday, June 13th. 16-yearold Javan Greco presented a workshop on proper flag etiquette in a presentation attended by local veterans, families and others. Attendees learned about the importance of respecting our national flag, in addition to proper flag handling and folding techniques.

Bristow young people are part of the crowds that continue to pour into the local community museum at the Bristow Train Depot as the Smithsonian's ''Voices and Votes' exhibition continues through July 13. The exhibition has already brought in tour groups from all areas of the state including Owasso, Tulsa, and Oklahoma City, as well as France, British Columbia, and eight states. Local educators, history lovers, families, and Route 66 tourists are enjoying this once in a lifetime opportunity to view not only the amazing Smithsonian exhibition, but also, Scott Peter's personal collection of historic art and documents that reflect America's early past. This collection is available for viewing only in Bristow during this five-week period so we hope everyone will make time to visit the Bristow Historical Depot before July 13th. Museum hours are Monday - Saturday 10-4 with the last tour of the day beginning at 3:40 PM. Sunday hours are 1-4 PM. Join Bristow's youth and celebrate this adventure we call America!
