Ask anyone, “What is your worst threat?” House fire? Death? Health? Finances? Taxes?
What is most threatening for you? “Wars and rumors of wars” (Matthew 24:6-13)? Threats from terrorists?
Spiritually, what is your worst threat? Attacks from the devil? Losing Jesus? Losing heaven? What keeps you awake at night? What occupies your anxious thoughts throughout your day? It may be that you are over-anxious.
Illness can destroy the human body. Are you immune to the world’s infectious diseases? Your mortal body begins deteriorating by age thirty!
Our physical existence will end one day, but what can you do today to enjoy a better quality of life? There are many possibilities, and now is the right time to begin!
The apostle Paul wrote, “We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ” (2 Corinthians 10:5).
Start by “taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” How do you view God? Is He real in your life every day?
“For we walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Corinthians 5:7). Do you remember Peter sinking when his faith weakened? (Matthew 14:22-33).
“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for the one who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He rewards those who seek Him” (Hebrews 1:6). God is real! “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:1-2). God is alive!
Many people, just like you, have given their thoughts and actions over to the living God. Their lives are now more peaceful.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4:7). When all is said and done, this temporary world cannot give you the answers you want for freedom from your worst threats.
Today, your heart and mind may need comfort. Jesus can give what you need: “Peace I leave you, My peace I give you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, nor fearful” (John 14:27).
Jesus is calling you today. He is saying, “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest…” (Matthew11:28).
