Turning first graders’ drawings into real-life dolls with FCCLA

Our 1st graders recently became little designers, filling their papers with colorful, imaginative drawings of characters— some had big eyes, silly smiles, and wiggly arms. Each drawing was full of personality and creativity, showing just how bright their imaginations can be.

The FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) stepped in to make magic happen. FCCLA members guided the students in turning their 2D drawings into real, huggable Ugly Dolls. They helped select colors, choose materials, and add finishing touches so the dolls matched the kids’ original ideas. Through this process, FCCLA students modeled teamwork, care, and leadership.

To celebrate, the dolls were presented at the Freeland Center, where the group also watched the Ugly Doll movie together. The event gave the students a chance to see their creativity come alive in a fun and memorable way.

Thanks to FCCLA, the 1st graders not only saw their ideas become real but also learned about planning, teamwork, and helping others. Every student left with a doll that began as their own drawing, a keepsake and memory they’ll treasure for years to come.
