Tornadoes devastate the area

Friday evening, March 6, brought a lot of excitement and terror to the area when the weather turned deadly in the matter of seconds. A tornado ripped through the area, causing a lot of damage along its path. Approximately 5:20 pm, the tornado came from the west and continued along the outskirts of town towards the north around 201st Street South. One Bristow family lost their entire home and contents, thankfully they made it to safety before the storm hit. Others lost barns, roofs, dog pens and various outside structures. The storm moved through quickly and headed northwest.

The National Weather Service said there were a total of seven tornadoes touched down that evening leaving devastating destruction. An EF3 hit the Beggs area leaving two people dead and two transported to the hospital, destroying four homes and parts of the school. Collinsville was hit with an EF3 with winds of 135 – 140 miles and hour and an EF2 touched down in Tulsa near 36th Street North and Lewis.

Emergency crews, along with family members and friends, have been busy cleaning up debris, helping with recovery efforts. Even though the season is upon us and these tornadoes can form in an instant, this one was a little too close for comfort.
