Tax free weekend begins Friday, Aug. 4

The new school year is right around the corner and just in time to help with the expenses of Back to School, Oklahoma will hold its annual sales tax holiday which will begin on Friday, Aug. 4, and end at midnight on Sunday, Aug. 6. Certain clothing and shoe purchases are exempt from sales tax for this time period only. The holiday does not apply to the sale of any accessories, special clothing or footwear primarily designed for athletic activity or protective use that is not normally worn except when used for the athletic activity or protective use or to the rental of the clothing or footwear, these items will still be taxed.

The annual Tax-Free Weekend comes right when parents and students are getting back-toschool supplies and clothing, which helps many families with the expenses associated with back to school.The state's sales tax holiday is always the first Friday through Sunday in August, which this year is Aug. 4-6. During the special holiday, people can buy any product in stores, online and through catalogs as long as the item is tax-exempt. The Oklahoma Tax Commission says items that qualify for Tax-Free Weekend include any article of clothing or footwear designed to be worn on or about the body, and the sales price is less than $100.
