In addition to protecting and serving the community, the Bristow Police Department has been busily organizing the Second Annual Sam Varner Memorial Fireworks Celebration. This year’s festivities are set for this Saturday, July 3rd. Although people tend to get excited most about seeing the fireworks, other planned fun and tasty treats await attendees.
For this year’s festivities, the City of Bristow purchased three large inflatables for children to enjoy during the afternoon and evening. One inflatable is a large slide that can be paired with water for a splashing great time. The City intends to set up the large inflatables on the softball field across from the old pool Saturday afternoon. With the park adjacent to the inflatables, the kids can enjoy plenty of outdoor play, delighting in more than the fireworks later that evening. For those more interested in food than play, there will be a few treats to savor as well.
Food trucks will also be in the vicinity for revelers to grab some tasty treats from 6:30 to 8:30 Saturday evening before the fireworks begin. Vendors include at least two food trucks: Mamacitas Mexican Tacos and Mr. Tony’s Shaved Ice. Mamacitas offers street tacos, Mexican meals, and shrimp dishes that locals love. Mr. Tony’s Shaved Ice offers snow cones and snow cone creations, which include combining extra treats with shaved ice. Common additions may include candies, cookies, ice cream, or chocolate drizzle. The American Legion will be present and offering hot dogs as well. Like the inflatables, food vendors will wind down as the fireworks begin.
About those fireworks, Chief of Police Kendra Raney tells us this year’s display will be “epic.” Each year, in preparation for the fireworks display, the Bristow Police Department collects and solicits donations to put on a fabulous Fourth of July celebration for the community. Last year, the celebration was named in memory of Sam Varner, the Varner family patriarch beloved by the Bristow community. Since last year, the celebration named in his honor presents the Bristow community with a large fireworks display typically only afforded residents of larger communities. The Bristow Police Department worked to ensure that, at least for this year, the community will enjoy an epic, unforgettable celebration.
