This week the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) notified the Oklahoma Department of Human Services (OKDHS) that the federal funding for the Supplemental Food Assistance Program (SNAP) will be suspended on Nov. 1, 2025. If you are one of the 684,600 persons receiving SNAP benefits this will directly affect you and your family. SNAP benefits will remain suspended as long as the government is shut down. The federal government shutdown began Oct. 1, 2025, after congress failed to reach a budget agreement for the 2026 fiscal year. The suspension will remain in effect until the federal government reaches/agrees on a budget resolution.
In these uncertain times, it is good to know there are places you can reach out to for help. Or if you would like to donate food to any of these places, reach out to them. Every donation, large or small is greatly appreciated and is used for a great cause. No person, young or old, big or small, should ever have to go hungry. The First Church of God, 3rd and Walnut, has a food pantry in front of the church. This pantry is visited several times a day by people who just need a little help or by some kind donor putting food in the box.
