Bristow Middle School students are getting an exciting hands-on look at their futures through a brand-new program this year: Central Tech Explorers. The class, taught by instructor Jessica Tiger, introduces students to real-world careers through engaging, projectbased learning.
The Explorers program covers 13 of the 14 national career clusters, spending two to three weeks on each field. Instead of learning from textbooks alone, students dive into practical experiences designed to spark curiosity and build skills. So far, students have constructed wooden treasure boxes, taken professional- style photographs using Canon cameras, designed architectural floor plans, learned basic financial literacy such as credit, debit, and check writing, and practiced proper table setting and napkin folding.
The students are currently exploring the healthcare industry. They are learning how to properly don personal protective equipment and how to take vital signs, with help from Central Tech nursing students who are assisting in the classroom. Future units will include hands-on experiences such as hair cutting and infant care.
The program has quickly become a favorite among students, who enjoy learning by doing while discovering potential career paths. The Explorers class represents a meaningful investment in Bristow’s youth, helping them gain confidence, practical knowledge, and exposure to opportunities they may not have considered before.
With its strong community focus and engaging curriculum, Central Tech Explorers is already making a positive impact at Bristow Middle School.
