Maddison’s Corner

In the recent past there has been an outpouring of sports themed movies, things like football and boxing, basketball even. And for the first time in a while we got one about racecars. Now this isn’t your typical days of thunder, tom cruise esque, experience. Rather, the movie is supposed to be done in typical Brad Pitt style, as it is his passion project.

It is not so much even the movie I want to talk about, but the reactions. I am a pretty casual movie enjoyer, especially for my age. I am not one to have super strong opinions, or really care what anyone else's opinions are on movies either. This movie is an exception. Not because I think its a phenomenal movie- I haven’t even seen it yet- but because I care so much about the sport and community it represents.

Formula 1 is often a discounted sport, especially in America because of a few reasons. Firstly, we already have a massive fan base for a different style of racing with NASCAR. Second of all, until recently the market for F1 has been primarily European because of where the races take place, and it comes off as if the sport is a rich boys club. With the F1 movie belonging to America’s very own Brad Pitt, it will have an American audience. Now, I haven’t seen the movie yet, but based off of people’s reactions I don’t think I will like it. The general consensus is that the people like it. It is fast paced and action packed. Everything the American audience needs.

I, however, have my own opinions that are yet to be formed. I am going to watch it tonight, so next week’s column will be sharing my thoughts and feelings.
