Kyle Hilbert, youngest House Speaker in Oklahoma's history

Kyle Hilbert was elected the 45th Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives in January 2025.

He is the State Representative for Oklahoma House District 29, which contains parts of Creek and Tulsa counties. Hilbert, along with his wife, Alexis, and their two daughters, make their home in Bristow.

Hilbert attended Oklahoma State University (OSU) where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Agribusiness and a Master's in Business Administration. While attending OSU, Hilbert served as Student Government Association President. In Hilbert's nine year tenure in the House, he has authorized over 50 bills that have become law. He authored the Redbud School Funding Act, which directs a portion of revenue generated from marijuana taxes to school districts with below-average local property taxes for infrastructure needs.

Prior to Hilbert's election as Speaker, he served three sessions as the Speaker Pro Tempore of the Oklahoma House of Representatives and spent three years as Vice Chair o the Appropriations and Budget Committee, where he helped get Oklahoma's budget in better shape than it has ever been and made the budget negotiation process more transparent than ever.

Hilbert, 31, is the youngest House Speaker in Oklahoma state history and only the second Republican speaker elected to the position at 30 years old or younger in any state since 1873. Hilbert was first elected in November 2016. Hilbert said, “I serve as a state legislator representing Bristow and the surrounding communities. I choose to serve in this role because I care deeply about making Oklahoma a better place, not just for today, but for the next generation. As a father of two young daughters, I feel a personal responsibility to leave our state stronger, safer, and more full of opportunity than I found it. Whether its improving education, supporting families, or protecting our values, I go to work every day focused on building a future they, and all Oklahoma children, can be proud of.”

Hilbert says what sets him apart from others is that he comes from rural Oklahoma and he still lives by the values that shaped him, faith, hard work, and service to others. “I approach this role as a calling, not a title. Every decision I make is grounded in the belief that government should work for the people—not the other way around. I stay connected to my constituents, and I’m raising my daughters in the same community I represent, so the policies I support have to work in the real world, not just on paper. While I am certainly not perfect, I strive to learn from my mistakes and always try to be a better husband, dad and State Representative,” said Hilbert.

When asked where he sees himself in another five years, Oklahoma has legislative term limits of 12 years so his time in office can not extend beyond 2028. However, his hope is that when he is finished serving, he can look back and say we made Oklahoma better.

Hilbert's Capitol office is open during regular business hours and can be reached at (405) 557-7353 or by email at kyle.hilbert@okhouse.gov. “I am always looking to better serve the people in House District 29 so please reach out if we can ever be of service.”
