What’s So Hard to Understand?

God destroyed everyone except eight people with the great flood of Noah’s day. They’d been warned, but they perished for refusing to get inside the ark.

As a baby in a basket, Moses was saved from the Nile by the daughter of Egypt’s king. She allowed Moses’ mother to raise him. Pharaoh had begun killing Hebrew babies (King Herod also did this when Jesus was a baby). God later rescued Israel when He parted the Red Sea, under Moses’ leadership.

God Himself wrote the Ten Commandments for Moses, who later angrily threw them to the ground, shattering His only record of writing words. Why’d Moses do it? (Exodus 32) God also provided water for the Hebrews during the forty years of wilderness wandering: “(He) split the rocks…rivers…of waters gushed out…” (Psalm 78:1516, 20). Did you know that in all those forty years God preserved their clothes from wearing out?

God once opened the earth to swallow up Korah and his entire family. They all fell into the chasm! (Numbers 16) Moses couldn’t enter the promised land of Canaan because he struck a rock to bring forth water for the people instead of speaking to it, as God commanded (Numbers 20: 7- 12).

The Old Testament scriptures are filled with difficult stories for our 21st-century minds to understand. One account tells us about a small shepherd boy bravely running up to a giant. David killed him and many more godless Philistines.

Another time, the army of Israel’s enemy surrounded God’s people. He destroyed 185,000 soldiers by morning, but God didn’t kill their king, Sennacherib! Why?

Each of these events is recorded in your Bible, and you may read them for yourself ! Some people cannot accept God’s violent acts. What they fail to see is His justice for those who reject Him. What He does in retribution demonstrates that He alone is the all-powerful God.

God commanded Israel to obliterate nations to keep Israel free from idolatry. False gods have no power! There is only one true God. He has demonstrated His power to all generations. No god is like Him!

People reject God because they can’t see and understand His love for them. Wouldn’t you rather seek the answers to your most difficult questions about God? Where would you begin?

The truth for you today is that God does love you! He wants you in heaven with Him, for all eternity. That’s hard to understand, but it’s true!

Look to God’s Word for knowing the simple answers for your life.
