Western Heritage Days
Western Heritage Days celebration is slated for Saturday, August 17, beginning with a parade down Main Street at 9 a.m. Throughout the day, visitors can also enjoy local sales, carriage rides, vendors, food trucks, entertainment and live music, contests and games, turtle races, and more. The festivities conclude that evening with the rodeo, which kicks off at 8 p.m. Reportedly, the event will be held at the park and lake area rather than downtown.
Animal Swap
The next Animal Swap event will be held this Sunday, August 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Tractor Supply Co. parking lot at 700 North Main Street. The event is free for all to attend. No domestic pet animals such as dogs and cats may be sold, traded, or swapped at the event. Homemade canned, baked, and crafted goods may also be available. After Sunday’s event, the next Animal Swap is scheduled for September 15. For more information, call 918-629-3353.
Candlelight Vigil
In last week’s paper, I stated that a candlelight vigil was held on Friday, August 2, in honor of Cal Latham. Three individuals provided that information, which seemed contrary to a planned candlelight vigil for this last Friday, August 9. I later learned that a few friends gathered to honor him on August 2, and that a community candlelight vigil was held last Friday near the depot. The community gathered in remembrance of his life and friendship.
Construction Updates
In addition to the sanctuary addition and renovation work being done at Bristow Holiness Church and the new construction of Dak’s Market at 1st Avenue and South Main Street, the new Casey’s being built on North Main Street along Route 66, the new Sonic being built at West 4th Avenue and South Elm Street, and the new homes being constructed in Wildflower Meadow to the southeast of Vertical Aerospace, Lesco Builders, LLC OK has made significant progress in the renovation and construction of their new location on the site of the previous tire recyclers along Industrial Road.
