Kansas Mopar Cruise visits Bristow

According to its Facebook page, the Kansas Mopar Cruise began in 2008 and occurs annually, consisting of Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth, Desoto, and AMC Mopars all cruising Route 66. For anyone unaware, Mopar represents any Chrysler-built vehicle. Al though the cruise typically heads east each year, they decided to go west this year, beginning in Joplin, Missouri and ending at the Thunder Valley Mopar Fest in Lexington, Oklahoma. The Thunder Valley Mopar Fest is an all-Mopar event, which includes drag racing, a car show, and a swap meet. As the group made its way westward from Joplin, it stopped in towns and at museums and other attractions along Route 66. Fortunately for Bristow, they made a few local stops.

Upon entering Bristow from the north, the Kansas Mopar Cruise began by taking note of the Mainer Ford dealership before continuing on to the old Bristow Chrysler Plymouth sign on East begin at 11:32 p.m. With temperatures already reaching the high 90's and heat index climbing to over 100 degrees, several heat related incidents have people 65 and older are more at risk for a heat related illness, it can affect anyone. The most important things you can do to prevent heat related illnesses are to stay hydrated and limit your time in the sun. The early warning signs of heat exhaustion are nausea, light-headedness, fatigue, muscle craping and dizziness. At the first signs of heat exhaustion move to an air conditioned place, take a cold shower or use cold co presses, remove tight or extra clothing layers to get your body temperature down, and drink sips of water.

Unlike heat exhaustion, heat stroke requires immediate medical attention. Someone experiencing heat stroke may have a headache, confusion, no sweating, rapid heart rate, nausea or vomiting and may lose conciousness. Call 911 immedi ately, move the person to a cooler place, use cold compresses to get their temperature down and do not give them fluids. Left untreated, heat exhaustion and heat stroke can lead to death. If an individual is confused, passes out, is hot but is not sweating, this is a medical emergency, dial 911 to get them help.
