Soldiers fighting Communism in Vietnam were the object of protesters' scorn. They were opposed to America being there. But that wasn’t a morale booster for the soldiers caught in those horrible conditions. Then, when the soldiers returned home, they were shunned and under-appreciated, coming to jeers, not cheers.
The war in Iraq was often questioned. “Are there really weapons of mass destruction?” Our soldiers were again under-appreciated. Many lost limbs, and several lost their lives in the war against terrorism.
It lasted for years. Mental illness, physical disfigurement, and suicide resulted. Still there are critics. The American military was again considered the enemy, rather than the heroes. They are heroes.
Today we have veterans who have dropped out of life. Homeless. Mentally struggling. Under- appreciated.
When WWII ended, the military returned home to cheers rather than jeers. Parades welcomed them home. They are heroes!
What has happened? Where are the banners recognizing bravery? Where are the parades?
It seems like we are living in a different America. How did it come to this? Some blame politicians, others lay the blame at the feet of “Communist” college professors. Still others reference the radical movements of the 1960’s. Some blame laws which removed God from our schools. Is Madeline Murray O’Hare to blame?
Whatever or whoever is to blame for the war against police, the question of repealing the Second Amendment to our Constitution, and the ever-growing disease of drug addiction and manufacturing of Meth, there is a solution. We don’t need to become depressed or disheartened.
Jesus said, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him...” John 14:23. Whatever the world may do, isn’t it comforting knowing that Jesus is with you?
Jesus also told His followers, “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world” John 16:33).
While we worry about what the looters, the vandals, or the protesters are doing, Jesus offers us peace!
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” Philippians 4:6-8). Anxiety is being overly concerned. Are you worried about things you can’t change?
Please read verse 8 in your own Bible. Memorize these words and you can enjoy a more peaceful life.
