Dewey Street in Sapulpa is back open, just in time for Route 66 Centennial

Good news for folks in Creek County: Sapulpa’s Dewey Street reopened Friday, January 16, 2026, after nearly a year of construction. The downtown stretch got a big upgrade, new sidewalks, better lighting, extra parking, and smoother roads, making it easier and safer for everyone, whether you’re driving through or just stopping by.

The timing couldn’t be better. The Route 66 Centennial is happening all year, celebrating 100 years of the Mother Road. The National Centennial Kick Off is scheduled for April 30,2026, with communities along Route 66 gearing up for festivities throughout the year. Many organizations are also planning major events around November 11, 2026, widely regarded as the highway’s 100th birthday celebration. Sapulpa is getting ready to welcome travelers from across the country, and the newly upgraded Dewey Street puts the city in prime position for visitors and local celebrations.

Local businesses are already seeing more folks out and about, and with wider sidewalks and outdoor spaces, it’s a great spot to grab a bite, shop, or just enjoy the smalltown charm. For anyone who drives through Sapulpa, the changes mean less hassle, more parking, and a prettier downtown.

Between the centennial celebrations and the new-look streetscape, downtown Sapulpa is brighter, friendlier, and ready to show off to the whole county. Creek County residents won’t have to travel far to enjoy a piece of the Mother Road in its 100th year.
