Collision takes lives over the weekend

A fatality collision occurred Saturday, May 27, one mile west of Chandler on S. 3410 Road.

According to the highway patrol report, a black Chevy Tahoe, driven by Jeremiah Sargent, age 34, was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve. Sargent lost control and departed the roadway, rolling three and a half times, landing on its top. The driver was ejected 22 feet, and was pronounced at the scene. One of the passengers was ejected six feet. The Tahoe also had three passengers. The names of two of the passengers were withheld due to being juveniles.

Passenger one was Zachary Collins, age 27, of Cushing, was taken to OU Medical Center in OKC by MEDIFLIGHT.

Passenger two, age 15, name withheld, was pronounced at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident and the third passenger was also 15, of Cushing, was transported by Chandler EMS to OU Children’s HOspital, admitted in poor condition.

According to the report, the driver was intoxicated and no seatbelts were in use by any of the passengers nor the driver.

A separate accident occurred, also on May 27, in the west bound lane of I-44 near Sapulpa.

A 2002 Toyota Ravo, driven by Desli Pineda-Mesa, age 20, of Tulsa, was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the turnpike, when she crashed head on into a 2023 Peterbilt semi driven by 59 year old James England of Wewokea. Pineda-Mesa also had a passenger, Ruben Schauer, age 49, of Newcastle. Pineda-Mesa and passenger, Schauer, were both transported. Pineda-Mesa was taken to By Creek County EMS to St. Francis, admitted in critical condition and Schauer was transported by Creek County EMS to OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, who was treated and released.

The driver of the semi, was also transported to by Creek County EMS to OSU Medical Center in Tulsa, where he was treated and released.

According to the report, the cause of the accident was a wrong way driver and intoxication.
