Javan A. Greco, a Bristow homeschool student, won first place for 12th grade writing in the recent statewide Law Day Contest sponsored by the Oklahoma Bar Association. Greco was recognized by Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justice Dustin P. Rowe during a ceremony at the Oklahoma Capitol on March 25.Nearly 1,150 students in pre-K through 12th grade entered this year’s Law Day Contest, themed 'The Rule of Law and the American Dream.' “The theme for this year’s contest highlighted the essential role the rule of law plays in protecting individual rights, creating opportunity and making the American Dream possible for all,” said OBA Law Day Committee Co-Chair Mary J. Clement. “It’s inspiring to see so many students from across the state learning more about our democracy by participating in this annual contest.”
Law Day, a nationwide event designated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1958, is celebrated annually with events on or around May 1 to raise awareness of American law. The idea for Law Day was conceived by the late Hicks Epton, a Wewoka attorney and past OBA president.
