Bristow resident loses life while crossing at intersection

Tragedy struck the Bristow community Saturday morning when a resident,David Harry Floyd,age 79, lost his life after being struck by a truck while crossing an intersection.

According to reports, at approximately 9 a.m. on Saturday morning, Jan 3, the Bristow Police Department received a call that an accident had occurred at the intersection of 7th and Main. A person riding a motorized wheelchair was struck by a vehicle as they were crossing the street. Upon arrival the police found that it was a pedestrian/ vehicle accident and an emergency response was needed. Creek County Ambulance and Bristow Fire Department were immediately called to the scene where treatment began on the victim.The victim was taken to Bristow Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Oklahoma Highway Patrol was called in for assistance in the investigation.

Reports state that the motorized wheelchair was traveling north along 7th Street on the east sidewalk and was crossing the 7th and Main intersection. The vehicle involved was turning east from Main onto 7th Street when it struck the wheelchair.

After graduation, Floyd joined the United States Army. He served for several years and was stationed in Germany for a time. He was honorably discharged in 1977. Services for Floyd are under the direction of Michael's Funeral Home, Bristow.

As of press time,the accident was still under investigation so no other information could be obtained.
