Bristow OHCE club members, Dr. Joyce Wade Kinslow and Ray Kinslow introduced 'Life Hacks' by displaying various objects on a table, and Ray reading the objectives of the lesson. These objectives included 1) recycling objects,2) making daily tasks easier, 3) strategies that will increase mobility and safety, and 4) cross generational 'hacks' that can also be used with younger relatives.
Dr. Kinslow began the lesson by reviewing that a 'Life Hack' is a strategy/technique adapted and 'repurposed' to manage time and activities more efficiently. She said, 'We re-introduced the concept of Life Hack as Sheryl gave a few examples during Jane's Household Tips of our business meeting.' Dr. Kinslow added,'You probably know and practice several life hacks but I am sure you will learn at least one new life hack during this presentation.' Dr. Joyce and Ray Kinslow passed out various individual project instructions, then had members match from the objects on the table. Examples included: 1)Retired bath towel (for stretches) 2)Non slip trick (rubber bands to increase grip) 3)Paperclip Bracelet Helper (latching a bracelet with opened paperclip) 4)Using salad for pouring pancake mix (recycled salad bottle and funnel) and 5)Pull tab closet expander (slip pull tab over metal hanger to double closet space capacity). Joyce further explained that a life hack is a strategy/technique to manage one's time and activities more efficiently. Basically, life hacks use strategies that re-purpose using everyday items in different ways or methods, making life easier. Thus, life hacks can be used to maintain Independence and even assist and help in mobility. In conclusion, this lesson provided ideas/uses for members and their families and friends. Noting 'maintain independence' listed as one aspect.
