Too often forgotten or invisible to society, veterans need and deserve to be supported and remembered at the holidays. In an effort to recognize some local veterans and their families this Thanksgiving, officers of the Bristow American Legion Post 126 partnered with the Milfay Fire Department to provide Thanksgiving food baskets to twenty area veterans and their families.
Adjutant Bob Mason of the Bristow American Legion noted that each recipient received a basket with a turkey and a variety of holiday side food items, including mashed potatoes, peas, corn, cranberry sauce, dressing, beans, rolls, cornbread, pumpkin pie, etc. The Sons of the American Legion provided the side food items while the Legion officers and Milfay Fire Department provided the turkeys. Food baskets were either picked up or delivered on Tuesday, November 23rd, at the American Legion.
As they provided the food baskets for Thanksgiving, the Milfay Fire Department and the Bristow American Legion will also provide twenty food baskets to local veterans this Christmas. Adjutant Mason encourages and invites anyone wishing to contribute to the effort or to sponsor a family to contact him directly at (515) 537-5238.
