American Legion announces upcoming community events

In recent months, community members may have noticed that Saturday night bingo sessions at the American Legion have been discontinued. Although the Legion terminated its bingo game nights, veterans of the organization have been busily planning bigger and better events the entire community can enjoy.

Beginning on April 21, the Legion will offer boxed lunches for purchase at the price of $10 each. Each boxed lunch will include pulled pork or chicken quarter, baked beans, a roll, and a drink. After purchasing a lunch, be sure to return and check out the Legion’s newest event the following day: a car show and poker run at Bristow’s own Klingensmith Park.

On April 22, the Legion will host a car show of around 100 cars and a poker run. The poker run will have between 150 to 200 participants. In conjunction with the poker run and car show, Legion members will be selling slabs of smoked ribs, bologna, and other meats at the event. In fact, pre-orders for meat are encouraged to ensure enough food will be available for everyone. To raise additional money for the organization’s projects and provide a piece of wearable memorabilia, Vane Bell is selling sponsorships, whose names and logos will adorn shirts made specifically for the day’s events. Both long sleeved shirts and t-shirts will be available for purchase the day of the event.

Finally, for three days in May, the Legion will host a combination garage sale and craft show. On May 4, 5, and 6, the Legion will open its facility to multiple vendors, each hoping to sell their wares, during Oklahoma’s 100-mile yard sale.

For more information about any of the events, contact Vane Bell or Rick Haffer. Vane may also be contacted by anyone interested in joining the poker run or in becoming a sponsor. Rick Haffer may be contacted for more information about the car show. Vane Bell may be reached at (918) 231-1162, and Rick Haffer may be reached at (573) 465-0029.

Whether anyone desires to be an active participant in the poker run or car show, to be a vendor in the sale, or to purchase food from the Legion, members want the community to come out and have a great time.

Any veteran interested in getting to know the organization may attend a meeting. Meetings are held at the American Legion at 131 West 8th Avenue each second Monday of the month.
