The community was awakened in the wee hours of the morning Saturday to the sound of not only the rumble of thunder and flashes of lightning but another sound mixed in with the rumbles. The sound of a tornado siren ? But no, it wasn't the usual sound coming from the big tower. Lightning struck the siren causing the siren to sound off and continue blowing. Even though it was pouring rain and in the wee hours of the morning, a technician had to be called in and finally the warning sound went silent.
Around the area several homes and businesses were left without power. Pizza Hut and McDonalds were unable to do business on Saturday due to no electricity. Tractor Supply was only letting one customer at a time in and payment had to be by cash. Residential homes all over lost power and some weathered the storm just fine. Monday morning comes around and some businesses, like Run Stop, were still without power. SpiritBank was able to open but the lights in its drive thru were not operational.
