Who’s Got the Time?

Life can be so unpredictable. Have you made specific plans to do something exciting, only to have your itinerary thwarted by unforeseen circumstances? Maybe you were struck by a personal illness, or you may have had a death in your family; it’s quite possible you were laid off when your workplace downsized. Sometimes life doesn’t go the way we’d hoped. None of us have time for those unexpected set-backs during this life.

Please consider the words of King David’s son, Solomon. He lived about 3,000 years ago, but he’s called “the wisest man who ever lived!” Jesus was wise, yes, but He was MORE than just a man. He’s the Son of God!

Solomon wrote a few Old Testament books. Their contents are still relevant.

In the book of Ecclesiastes, which contains Solomon’s reflections on the meaninglessness of life, he’s saying, “One day, this life will end.” But who knows when? Does it matter? None of us seem to have time for it.

Read Ecc. 3:1 in your Bible. Everything has an “appointed” time. The number of your days is “fixed.” It won’t be altered for you. Every “matter” or “event” “under heaven” has a fixed time.

This isn’t to say that you are like a child’s toy that the toddler can wind up. It will only move the way it’s programmed, or designed, to work. Humans are unique beings created in God's image (Genesis 1:26). We are NOT like programmable robots.

Please read Ecc. 3:2. The birth of a child is usually a joyful moment for parents. When you came into the world, your mom and dad looked at you with pride. They were thankful that God gave them such a perfect little life.

But consider the entire verse: “A time to give birth (or, ‘be born’) AND a time to die.” None of us can have that first part without also facing the other. The Good News is that you don’t have to worry about that second part coming.

Did you know that you are “awesomely and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14)? God made you awesome. You are wonderfully made by God!

“And in Your Book were written all the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them…” (Ecc. 3:16).

God has seen you and has known YOU since your beginning!

God is great and awesome! He gave you life, and some day He will bring everything to an unexpected end. Only He knows that day. Today you need to give Him your time. Come to know Jesus, who gave His life for you!
