What’s The Cure?

By Ken Murrell, Depew Church of Christ

Colleen and Tommy were in their early twenties. She was an attractive woman, and he was a strong, handsome man.

In their first few years together two girls were born to them.

Tommy worked in a shipyard, after the Navy. Their lives were going well. Then Tommy began feeling sick.

The doctor’s diagnosis: “It’s an aggressive cancer.”

After only nine years of marriage, their world began crumbling.

It was the late 1960s. Cancer treatments were not as advanced as today. Colleen didn’t want to lose her young, handsome husband, and Tommy didn’t want to leave his young family. But, treatments offered in the United States were not powerful enough for Tommy’s weakening body.

Having little hope, they looked further. They’d learned of an experimental treatment in Mexico. Hope was renewed.

After many weeks of all that could be given him, Tommy was sent home to die. It was too late for help.

His young wife of less than ten years became a widow, and two little girls became fatherless.

You may suffer from chronic illness. Your life savings might have fallen into a scammer’s hands. A loved one, your spouse or child, or parent passed from this life too soon.

During these painful times, we’re reminded that this life is temporal.

God created all that you see, everything you enjoy. He never intended this world as your final home!

The Lord has something far greater to give you.

Abraham, called “the father of faith,” “was looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God” (Hebrews11:10). The greatest world that you’ll want for eternity is heaven!

Please read the marvelous statements made by the inspired writer - “Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe” (Hebrews 12:25-28).

Painful times will come in this world. But, please be comforted that this world will one day end. The heavenly place follows your life here. You can look forward to that. Give your life to God, believe in Him, repent, and live the rest of your life to honor Him!

In the book of Revelation, the Lord gives hope and peace. All can be better for you! He will take away your pain, the tears, and all sorrow. Suffering will no longer exist. Trust and obey God to remove your sins and provide a hope-filled future!

Please read about the beautiful eternal place where you can spend eternity - Revelation 21!

The worst problem you have during this life of pain and loss, is the problem of human frailty in the form of sin. This will keep you from the heaven that God wants you to enjoy for eternity.

Heaven can be your eternity! Won’t you come to Jesus today, before it’s too late!
