Letter to the Editor,
Every day we hear about people starving all over the world by way of newspapers or TV, and I wish that I could help in some way. Well, we can all help in a small way here in Bristow. You see, school children can eat breakfast and lunch at school during the week, but many of them may not have the money for food for the weekends. Let me tell you how you can help with a project called "The Backpack Program". This program was started at the Bristow
Presbyterian church in 2006. That year we only packed 36 packs and has now grown as high as 155 per week. We have a wonderful group of workers who gather at the church each Thursday morning to pack the bags. Of course we do not pack during the Summer, but we are getting low on funds and may not be able to do them for very long.
The most wonderful thing that has happened over the years is that this program has become one of the favorite ways for the Bristow people and surrounding towns to help feed hungry children. We receive gifts from individuals, gifts from organizations, and honorariums from people who want to donate in honor of, or in memory of loved ones.
We are so happy that we have become a community program that is supported by so many people, and that our "packers" are members of 6 different churches. If you would like to come see what we do, or help us pack we would love to have you. We will start packing in the Fall when school starts and they let us know how many children need our help We start about 9:30 on Thursday mornings. The coffee pot is always on.
If your heart is telling you that maybe you would like to support this program, you can make checks to: Bristow Presbyterian Church, P.O Box 805 Bristow, OK 74010. Every penny goes to buy food. Many thanks & God bless you all, Myra Fadely & the Backpakers
