There’s a story about an old, miserly man walking home alone late one night. Suddenly a robber steps out from tall hedges, points a gun at the miser, and in a commanding voice he demands, “Your money or your life!” The miser hesitates to answer, to which the robber again demands, “I said, your money or your life!” The miser then impatiently responds, “I’m thinking it over!”
He couldn’t live without his money. Unfortunately, he put too much value on his money, without having much selfworth. How much value do you put on yourself? What are you worth? Well, if you look at yourself in dollars-and-cents value, your self-worth is roughly $160.00. This is based on the chemical elements found in each of us. This is also based on the weight of the person being 176 lbs. You’ll have to adjust accordingly.
Your value though is far greater than the figure above because the dollar amount scientifically leaves out a very important element. The Spirit of God inside a person increases that value. But, even if you don’t have the Spirit of God inside you, your value is still far greater than the scientific sum. How is that possible? The Bible tells us so.
In Romans 5:6-10 the apostle Paul lays it out plainly: “For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.” The Bible teaches that even the “ungodly” have tremendous value in God’s eyes. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Do you notice how much God’s value is for you? Even when you hated Him, as a sinner, He showed His level of value for you. Who would give their only child for a hater?
God! His love for you is incomprehensible!
“Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him...while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son...we shall be saved by His life.”
One day, those who are outside of Christ, who don’t have the Spirit of God within them (Romans 8:9), will suffer His wrath. He doesn’t want that for you, but He will never force anyone to accept His love.
God wants you to know how much He values you. “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?”
Wow! If you don’t yet see how much you are worth in God’s eyes, what else might convince you?
