Christmas favorites

Christmas is an exciting time of year where children are waiting for Santa and his eight tiny reindeer. The streets are lit up like bright shiny stars and wreaths are hung all around. People decorate their houses with lights, trees, and decorations from Santa to the Nativity scene of baby Jesus being born. Sure there is the negative side of Christmas that a lot of folks focus on such as traffic, buying gifts, the cold weather, and crime that happens around the holidays. I like the cooler weather but not so much the cold weather. I love the snow but I don’t like driving in it. I like to buy gifts but don’t like the crowds. There is always something negative you can find in any situation.

But let’s focus on the positive things of Christmas like looking at the Christmas lights with your spouse while drinking cocoa or coffee in the cool night air. Maybe your favorite part is cutting down your own tree to decorate. You might enjoy going caroling and enjoy watching others start to sing along. Maybe you like to go to church and watch the children’s program as they sing about baby Jesus in the manger. What is your favorite part of Christmas? Whatever your favorite part of the holiday is, make sure that you do those things and keep that Christmas spirit alive.

Christmas comes but once a year, kindness and happiness are year round. Don’t wait until the holidays to give to others or to be kind. People need your kindness all throughout the year. So help your neighbor carry in those heavy bags, smile at others as they pass by, or simply keep that childlike spirit going because happiness is not just to give to others but is for yourself as well. Keep making those memories, be safe, and have a Merry Christmas.
