Winter has hit, with temperatures droppng dramatically, and even though the weather is cold, hunting and fishing is still in full swing.
If you are one of those that can handle the cold, crappie fishing is at its best right now. Actually, winter is a great time to crappie fish. Right now you can find them 12 to 15 feet deep near structures of some sorts. When the water is cold, crappie tend to school up more making them easy to locate.
Right now, quail hunting is in season, but will end on Feb.15 and archery season for deer runs until Jan.15. Duck season is also open in Oklahoma.
No matter what you are hunting, you will need a license in order for you to hunt legally and enjoy your hunting experience.
Winter bird feeding is very popular this time of year. Most stores carry bird feed and bird feeders. Put a couple in your yard to attract the birds to your yard. Make sure there is plenty of water in a bird bath or just a pan of water for the birds. Fresh water is of utmost importance with any animal, even birds. They need to drink and clean themselves, which helps insulate their feathers, but during freezing temperatures, make sure the water does not freeze. If it does, change it.
