This Saturday, Aug. 19, join in the celebration of Bristow's Western Heritage Days. A fun filled day is guaranteed with a kids carnival, a petting zoo, turtle races, a balloon artist, a rocking climbing wall, which will all be set up near the Montfort & Allie B Jones Memorial Library. Would you like to ride a bull? A mechanical bull will be set up in the Los Arcos parking lot, so dare to try your skills.
A parade for your enjoyment will begin at 10 a.m. with a trick rider and a one arm bandit, who will also be performing at the rodeo. This year's Grand Marshal is Dean Horton. Horton is a Veteran and a Purple Heart recipient and is very active in the horse community. After the parade you can enjoy Native American Dancers performing on Main Street and Cowboy vs Indians wrestling matches. Enjoy some great food and unique gifts offered by various vendors. There will be music at 6th and Main along with a beer tent setup near the music.
This year there will be a Cowboy Hat Hunt, with cash prizes ranging from $25 $100. Purple cowboy hats will be hidden up and down Main Street. When you find one, the prize amount will be under the hat.
The Western Heritage Days rodeo will be held both Friday and Saturday evenings at the arena at the sports complex, with a dance after the rodeo on Saturday night.
Because a lot of visitors like to bring their pets to the festival and looking at triple digit temperatures and heat index, Pools for Pets will be set up for your pets to cool off and get a drink.
This year the celebration is sponsored by the Bristow Westfest Group who will be set up in the Venue 66, on West 8th, for any questions or West 8th, for any questions or lost people or pets.
How much more entertainment can you pack into one day? Put on those cowboy hats, gather up the family and visit Main Street, downtown Bristow, and help celebrate the community’s heritage.
