Richard Stephens Jr.,
Richard Stephens Jr. was born March 13, 1923, to Richard and Lillie Stephens in Boynton, Oklahoma. He departed this life Oct. 30, 2019, at the age of 96 years, seven months and 17 days.
Richard grew up attending Cane Creek School. Upon completing the eighth grade, he took time off to help work the fields around the area. Upon completing his high school education, Richard graduated from the police academy.
He and the love of his life, Berneice Jackson were married and spent over 35 years together before her passing on May 29, 1994. Richard worked tirelessly to provide for his family and was proud to retire from the Creek County Sheriff’s office after 22 years of service.
He loved to be outdoors, farming was a way of life. Every moment gathered with family was sure to put a smile on his face and laughter filled the air with every game of dominoes. Richard loved music, his Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Richard is survived by three sons, Rickey Stephens and wife, Lucille, Michael Washington and wife, Missi, and Bronze Harrison; daughter, Beatrice Harrison; three stepsons, Ronald Washington, Godfrey Washington Jr. and Edward Washington; two sisters, Henrietta McIntosh and Doris Jimmerson; as well as a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Berneice Stephens; two daughters, Versadell Washington, Edwina Washington; one son, Bobby Washington; four sisters, Lilly Rowland, Ann Sanders, Alice Carroll and Marjorie Wright and one brother, Robert Stephens.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 12 p.m., Friday, Nov. 8, 2019, at Trinity Baptist Church with Pastors Mark and Kim Thaxton officiating. Entombment will follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens.
