James “Jimmie” Lee Provence

James “Jimmie” Lee Provence was born on July 1, 1948, to James Farris and Reba Lee (Alcorn) Provence in Bristow. He departed this life on July 25, 2026, at the age of 78.

Jimmie grew up in Bristow and graduated from Bristow High School with the Class of 1966. On June 16, 1972, he was united in marriage to Jewel Ann Haney, and together they built a loving home filled with devotion, laughter, and family. Their union was blessed with two children, Mike and Elisha. Jimmie and Jewel enjoyed 38 wonderful years together before her passing on February 27, 2010.

A hardworking and dedicated man, Jimmie spent many years in the fiber optics field, ultimately retiring as a project manager. His work ethic, leadership, and commitment earned the respect of colleagues across the industry.

Jimmie lived life with energy and enthusiasm, always keeping himself active through the hobbies he loved. Whether hunting, fishing, bowling, playing cards, or especially golfing, he found joy in staying busy and spending time with friends and family. His favorite time of year was the Fourth of July, when he gathered his loved ones together for a celebration filled with tradition, laughter, and togetherness. He was also a proud and avid Oklahoma Sooner football fan, cheering on his team with passion every season.

Above all, Jimmie loved his family deeply. He is survived by his son, Mike Provence and wife Tracy; his daughter, Elisha Plum and husband Lyle; his sister, Linda Mann; seven grandchildren, Zach Smith and wife Nicole, Caleb Smith and wife Mallorie, Cameron Smith, Tyler Provence, Micheala Provence, Brooklynn Provence, and Aubrie Plum; and three great-grandchildren, Stevie Smith, Phoebe Smith, and Selestine Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Jewel, and his sister, Susy Murray.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity Baptist Church Youth Group, honoring Jimmie’s heart for family, faith, and community.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the Trinity Baptist Church with interment to follow at the Bristow City Cemetery.
