Charlene Mock Hopkins, 1949 - 2019
Charlene Mock Hopkins, 69, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at her home in Depew. Her passing was peaceful and she was surrounded by family and loved ones.
Charlene leaves behind her husband of 52 years, Jerry Blaine Hopkins; sons, Jimmy and wife, Tracy; Shawn and wife Lynn; Matt, and Jason and wife Kelli, all of the Bristow area. Also left behind are eight beloved grandchildren: Kyle Hopkins, Kaleigh Hopkins, Jayden Hopkins, Jasee Hopkins, Caleb Hopkins, Tyson Hopkins, Reagan Hopkins, Kaylor Hopkins and two precious greatgranddaughters, Henley Wilson and Hyatt Wilson; one brother Adolphus Fred Bailey; two sisters, Sylvia Munoz and Raylene Mock as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Born on June 26, 1949, in Muskogee. Charlene was the daughter of Herbert and Jenny Mock. Charlene met Jerry Hopkins in July of 1967 and said yes just a few weeks later on July 14, 1967. Jerry and Charlene lived several places before settling in Depew with their family in 1987.
As a young girl, Charlene fell in love with horses. Her heart was always happiest on the back of her favorite animal. She worked as a beauty operator and later on as a nurse. She had a heart for helping others and it showed through in her work. Later in life, she grew to love barrel racing and enjoyed competing with her friends. She made many dear friends a long her clover leaf pattern. Her love spilled over into her grandkids, who all inherited the love affair with horses. This provided an opportunity for Charlene to teach and inspire them.
In Charlene’s last years, she was no longer able to compete herself, but she continued to attend every event she could for her kids and grandkids. She was the most loving and encouraging cheerleader for her babies. Charlene lost a long hard battle with Parkinson’s, but remained positive and cheerful throughout her 12 year struggle. She was the ultimate champion in and out of the arena.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at Hutchins-Maples Matherly Funeral Chapel with Bill Blaylock presiding. Burial will follow at Welty Cemetery.
