Jene Dale Miner, 1932 - 2018

Jene Dale Miner was born April 1, 1932, to Harley and Byrdice (Connett) Miner in Savonburg, Kansas. He departed this life July 6, 2018, at the age of 86 years, three months and five days.

He attended Tulsa Public Schools and served his country in the Army division of the United States Armed Forces, fighting in the Korean War. Jene loved working. He was a truck driver; driving everything from big rigs to working as an escort for wide load trucks. He really enjoyed all the places he traveled to, along with meeting new people. In his free time, Jene was very involved in the race car industry. In his younger years, he started out racing. In more recent years, he lived out his dream of racing, watching his car being raced. Jene and Sherry owned cars that have won three championships in a two years time. Winning races at tracks in Hutchinson and Wichita Kansas in the same year, they also won the championship at Creek County Speedway in Kellyville.

Jene is survived by his wife, Sherry Miner, of the Bristow home; one daughter, Karen Calico and husband, Athel, of Catoosa; step-brother Ray Miner and wife, Laura, of Hume, Missouri; “special kids”, Jack Lamb and wife, Ginger, of Valley Center, Kansas; two grandchildren, Cody Jene Calico and wife, Whitney, of Catoosa and Callie Dawn Phillips and husband, Tim of Owasso; four great-grandchildren, Baylee and Blakeley Calico, of Catoosa; Ava Leone and Maddox Owen Phillips, of Owasso; two nephews, Larry Miner and wife, Melinda, of Atoona, Kansas and Lee McCoy and wife, Janet, of Bristow; two nieces, JoAnn Schroer, of Bristow and Tammy Capps and husband, Ronnie of Bristow.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harley Miner; mother, Byrdice Zickefoose and step-father who raised him, Harold Zickefoose; grandparents, Francis and Tony Connett; daughter, Destiny Miner, sister, Ella Mae Harper, Ed Goff, who was like a father; and Terry Weld, who was like a brother.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Trinity Baptist Church with Reverend John Tidwell officiating. Memorials donations can be made to Green County Hospice, 1120 S. Boston Ave #200, Tulsa, OK 74119.
