New law reduces taxes for businesses, cuts support for jobless Oklahomans

Republican legislators passed a law lowering taxes for businesses, but critics say it comes at the expense of jobless Oklahomans. The law, which passed along party lines in both the House and the Senate, cuts the maximum number of weeks that unemployed Oklahomans can receive financial support from 26 to 16 starting Jan.

Oklahoma pair takes the lead in IFYR Team Roping

After one full round of competition at the International Finals Youth Rodeo (IFYR), the Oklahoma team of Jim Watkins and Bode Gatlin edged out an Arizona team to take the lead in the team roping. Jim Watkins (17) of Bristow and Bode Gatlin (15) of Meeker threw down a time of 6.0 to top the leaderboard.

For years, Paige Wood operated her business from her home, aspiring to one day open a local storefront. Paige, a Bristowan from birth, grew up within the community. Many locals may know her better by her maiden name, Dowdy. In fact, Paige’s family has proven an integral thread of Bristow’s tapestry for generations as teachers, historians, and godly public servants.
