Classic theatre sweepin down the plains in Bristow

A group of local thespians are bringing the classic Broadway smash, Oklahoma! to Bristow with a unique twist. The production, which has two showings scheduled for July 22 at 6 p.m. and July 23 at 10 a.m., will be staged outdoors in the park at the Klingensmith Amphitheatre.

Curve-Balls of Life

For the past several years our family has gone through the most difficult “inning” (season) of fast balls, change ups and curve balls that we have ever experienced. We moved to a new town and launched a semi-retirement ministry. To simplify our lives, we tried to sell our condo in Tulsa. (A city slicker invades the country, and the chiggers are winning! But that’s another topic.) Eight of our eleven grandchildren and their parents live in the Tulsa area, and so it was a terribly difficult decision. Needless to say, for the Catrett family, the past couple of years we have been pleasantly exhausted with the ups and downs of the game.

The U.S. Supreme Court just issued its final opinions from its Spring term, and as usual, the pronouncements from the judicial throne predictably resulted in celebration, consternation, protest and plenty of ill-informed declarations. One of those last few opinions was Oklahoma v. Castro-Huerta, which has significant consequences for criminal prosecutions in the eastern half of Oklahoma.

The Bristow Police Department held a “Picnic with Police” on Wednesday, June 29 and July 6. The picnic was held on the front lawn of the department. Children and adults brought their lunches and enjoyed lunch on the lawn, getting to know the police.
