Troop 571 visits fire station

Bristow Cub Scout Pack 571 visited the Bristow Fire Station on Monday, Oct. 12. The firemen discussed fire safety and prevention with the scouts. The scouts also participated in a fire hose demonstration.

Members approve slate of officers during annual NNA meeting

Brett Wesner, president of Wesner Publications in Cordell, Oklahoma and is publisher of the Bristow News, was elected chair of the National Newspaper Association during the association’s 134th annual meeting. He had been treasurer.Wesner publishes 15 titles in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico. A native Oklahoman, Wesner served as press secretary to the chairman of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee before starting his company in 1988."As we enter this exciting new period, when the NNA Foundation will take over many of the wonderful programs NNA itself has normally managed, our board will be laser-focused on government affairs,” Wesner said. “As the only newspaper group representing community journalism with a full-time public affairs staff in Washington, our responsibilities have never been greater, but with the talent and energy of this new board of directors, I know we’re up to the challenge. Winning in Congress is not a guarantee, but you can’t win if you’re not heard. I can assure the members of this association we will be heard.”Wesner succeeds Matt Adelman, publisher of the Douglas (Wyoming) Budget, who became immediate past president and will serve on the ex-officio board, as well as lead the National Newspaper Association Foundation as president.

Trick or Treat Halloween is near

Spooks, goblins, witches and ghous are getting close to making their appearance. Due to the pandemic, Pumpkins in the Park will not be held this year. Wondering what to let the kids do this Halloween? We have the solution. An area from Elm to Cherry Streets and Sixth and Seventh Streets will be blocked off for kids to enjoy door to door trick or treating. The Bristow Police and Fire Department will have the west end of city hall blocked off and will be passing out candy to the youngsters. The trick or treaters will also be able to look inside the fire and police cars. This parking lot and the one across the street will have vendors passing out candy. Those who have joined in on the Trick or Treating fun will be Community Bank, Bristow Medical Center, the Ministerial Alliance, Crown Auto and Mainer Ford. There is an age limit on those trick or treating. The age limit is 12 years of age. If you would like to join in the fun and your business would like to pass out candy to the trick or treaters, to reserve a space, call Dena or Sabrina at city hall, (918) 367-2237.

City council approves purchase of fire truck

The Bristow City Council met in its regular meeting on Monday evening. The board discussed several agenda items including approval of a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Bristow, waiving formal competitive bidding for the purchase of a 2005 Pierce Dash Rescue pumper, declaring that the waiver is in the best interests of the citizens and taxpayers of the City of Bristow, approving and authorizing an Inter-local Fire Apparatus Purchase agreement with the City of Jenks. The board also approved a claim to the City of Jenks in the amount of $60,000 for the purchase of a 2005 Pierce custom fire truck.

First Bristow Fall Festival held Saturday

Saturday, Bristow held it's first Bristow Fall Festival and Officer Down Fundraiser. The event was held at the amphitheater, at Klingensmith Park. The event started the day with a ride for the Officer Down Fundraiser. A group of motorcycle enthusiasts gathered at 11 a.m. to ride from Bristow down Route 66 through Depew and Stroud, around through Cushing and Drumright then back to Bristow. Even though it was a cool, crisp day, the Four Kings LE/MC and the Americas Guardians motorcycle clubs gathered to show their support and ride along the designated route with Bristow's Mayor Rick Pinson.
