Ft. Gibson: November 2. Elevation above normal, water 57 with 1 ft. of visibility. White bass good on in-line spinnerbaits, jigs, sassy shad and spoons in the main lake, around points, windblown rocky shorelines and flats. On windy days, fishermen are able to catch white bass while wading on the shallow flats. Use a set up that will cast a great distance. A weighted float may help cast a small jigs further into the wind. Crappie good on grubs, jigs and minnows around brush structure, main lake and standing timber. Largemouth bass fair on crankbaits, jigs, plastic baits and rogues along riprap, rocks and shorelines. Come enjoy the lake as temperatures begin to cool off. Fish are biting and many folks have moved on to other activities.

Bristow resident celebrates 100th birthday

Basil Baker was born in 1920 on a farm south of Bristow. He grew up on the family farm south of Bristow where he worked on the farm and worked for other farmers when they were in need. In 1940, at the age of 20, Baker joined the United States Army where he rode in the 1st Calvary Division, 7th Calvary Regiment until a bad knee injury made him leave the Calvary. He was sent to Fort Riley, Kansas, where he was a small arms instructor for five years. After this, Baker was sent to Santa Fe, New Mexico, as an advisor to their National Guard. His next military journey took him over seas through Germany to Austria. From there, he was sent to Fort Eustis, Virginia, in the transport division. Baker was then sent to Fort Bliss, Texas, as a first sergeant for a development company that dealt with small airplane drop analysis. He traveled to Topeka, Kansas, where he was an advisor for the Kansas Army Reserves. Next in his military journey, Baker went to Hawaii as a commander of classified documents for the U.S. Army Pacific. He was then asked by the General to return to Santa Fe, New Mexico, to once again be the advisor for the National Guard.

Hawg Wild Toy Run held Saturday a great success

The Hawg Wild Toy Run was another great success this year. Toys were collected for children in the area, in order to help brighten their Christmas. Pictured is the Bristow Social Service workers along with Bristow Head start workers accepting the donated toys.

Injury collision on south Hwy 48

An injury collision occurred Halloween on SH 48, approximately seven and a half miles south of Bristow, near West 321st Street South. Ronnie Wilson, age 50, of Bristow, was walking southbound on the fog line when he was struck by a 2005 Ford Expedition, driven by Millard Laskey, age 50, of Bristow.

Seventy Oklahoma Schools failed to submit immunization data

New data showing the percentage of Oklahoma kindergarteners who are up to date on all required vaccines is missing about 7,870 students because their schools did not submit the information. Each year the State Department of Health conducts a survey of vaccination coverage and exemption rates for children enrolled in public and private kindergarten programs.
