Military Family Visits Memorial Located at VFW Post 3656 and adjacent to Lake Massena, the Wake Island Memorial found its home in Bristow. It remains the only one of its kind in the United States. Due to its uniqueness, the memorial attracts hundreds of visitors annually. Visitors come from a multitude of backgrounds and may be interested in history, honoring those who served, or simply exploring. Recently, a remarkable service family visited.

Marijuana edibles present serious risk to children

More children are getting their hands on marijuana edibles, and for toddlers the effects can be serious or even life-threatening. Marijuana-related calls to the Oklahoma Center for Poison and Drug Information involving children have increased 10-fold since 2018, when medical marijuana legislation was passed in the state.

County Commissioner candidates speak at Town Hall Forum

In January, Governor Kevin Stitt called a special election to fill the vacancy of the Creek County Commissioner District Three position following the passing of District Three Commissioner Lane Whitehouse. Six candidates filed in response. Friday, March 26th, five of the six candidates running for Creek County Commissioner District Three came together for a town hall forum at VFW Post 3656. The five candidates present who spoke and answered constituents’ questions include: Danny Gann, Bryan Sherwood, H. Chris Root, Mike Wofford, and Justin Speers. The sixth candidate, Jarrod Whitehouse, did not attend. Bristow Mayor Rick Pinson also spoke regarding the proposed separate half-cent taxes for the hospital and parks and recreation. Because the forum was dedicated to showcasing the District Three Commissioner candidates, no questions were presented for Mayor Pinson.

Honoring National Vietnam War Veterans Day

For National Vietnam War Veterans Day, the Bristow Boy Scout Troop 571 honored 1st Lieutenant Robert E Trigalet. 1st Lt. Trigalet was killed in action while piloting a USMC Combat Helicopter in Vietnam.

Wildflower Run set for May 8

The 33rd annual Wildflower Run will be held this year on Saturday, May 8. The run was not held last year due to the pandemic. Local runners, as well as ones from out of town, will be in Bristow to make the run. Dr. Chip Cooper said, “This year, due to COVID, there will not be a workout for the kids.” He said, “Hopefully by the end of April shots will be available for all who desires to have one.”
