For the second year, Animal Aid of Tulsa ran its “People Painting Pets” fundraiser, which ended the first week of May. The fundraising program offered pet owners the opportunity to receive an artistic painting or drawing of their pet(s) for $20. In a fun, surprising twist, pet owners received pet “portraits” as simple as childlike drawings or as detailed, realistic portraits, depending upon the skill level of and style chosen by individual volunteer artists. Upon receipt of payment and pet images, Animal Aid of Tulsa passed on the photos to volunteers responsible for creating the pet portraits. Those volunteers included young children, families, students, and amateur and professional artists. Animal Aid of Tulsa received pet submissions from all over the country; likewise, artists from many locations volunteered to paint or draw those pets.
