In 2020, a young man graduated from Bristow High School. Like most adolescents and young adults, he had life dreams and plans but needed time and a few life lessons to make those dreams a reality. Dylan Darnell chose to allow God and his faith to transform his life, and the fulfillment of his dream to own an eatery soon followed.

As a teenager, Dylan admits that he made mistakes, faced some challenges, and learned hard lessons because “I did not put God first in my life or trust Him”. He noted that a few years ago, he made some changes.“I’ve gotten into His Word, praying, putting Him first, and learning to trust Him wholly. Since I put him first, my life has changed in positive ways that I never imagined. God’s great.” In fact, God and trusting Him mean so much to Dylan that he named his business with both in mind: Trust Food Trailer.

When he was still in high school, Dylan said he knew he wanted to one day own his own food establishment. He simply did not know exactly what type of foods he wanted to create and sell. In the meantime, he graduated from high school and went to work for Norris Rods in Tulsa. He worked hard and began saving money to one day open his food business. In his early twenties, he managed to do just that by following and trusting God and with the support of his family.

While at Norris Rods, Dylan trusted God to make his dream possible. He prayed and followed God by leaving his job, knowing God would make a way for his food business. His hard work and family support helped get it started. Not knowing what types of food he wanted to

See Food, Page Two offer proved to be a short-lived challenge as his parents, David and Amy Darnell, helped him settle on selling Indian tacos and sherbet. Dylan said he loved the idea because he enjoys the tacos and knew others might as well, especially since they are not regularly sold in restaurants. Next, he purchased his trailer.

Trust Food Trailer is a humble, red trailer. The sole writing upon it is a Bible verse painted in yellow. It reads “TRUST ‘Trust In The Lord With All Your Heart and Lean Not Unto Your Own Understanding.’ Proverbs 3:5” Dylan noted that he loves the verse because it was only when he began to build a relationship with God and truly trust Him that his life began to change and drastically improve. He stated that he had it printed on the side of his trailer “because it’s important for us to see and live by. God is so good and changes our lives when we trust Him. Trust God, and your life will work out. We all need to see that verse.”

Dylan also wished to thank his family, saying that they all help each other and him with his business. First and foremost, he wished to express special appreciation to his grandpa, Ted Underwood, for “helping me make my dream a reality. Thank you for the help along the way.” He also wanted to thank his mom, who takes orders at the window, and his dad, who cooks and helps serve the food.

As for the food, Trust Food Trailer serves both Indian and walking tacos, individual fry breads, fry bread funnel cakes, and sherbet made with fresh fruit. The tacos are made with either fry bread or nacho cheese Doritos, pinto beans, beef, cheese, salsa, lettuce, onion, tomato, and sour cream. Fry bread funnel cakes are a special creation made by Dylan and a friend and consist of a fry bread piece topped with honey and powdered sugar. The sherbet comes in two distinct flavors: orange with pineapple and strawberry. It can also be purchased as a twist with both flavors.

Last Friday, Dylan set up Trust Food Trailer at 9th Avenue and Main Street. For the first time, I met him and his family and tried both an Indian taco and sherbet twist. As a vegetarian, I was thrilled to learn that Dylan’s business is vegetarian—albeit not vegan— friendly. Further, I thoroughly enjoyed the food. The Indian taco was the best I have ever eaten. The fact that it came from a business owned by a very young adult who trusted God made it even better.
