A tribute to a true Bristownian

It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a true Bristownian, Bunny Baker. Bunny passed frrom this life on June 30, 2026. She had just celebrated her 100th birthday on May 23, when she was inducted into the Centenarian Hall of Fame and received and honorary certificate as a Charter member of the Bristow Post 3656 VFW Auxilary.

Bunny was born in Bristow , living most of her life in Bristow. She graduated from Bristow High School in 1944 and in 1945, married Merle Baker, beginning a loving union that lasted 58 years.

Bunny’s extraordinary roots to and knowledge of Bristow earned her the title of “Historian Extraordinaire” from the Bristow Historical Society for all her volunteer work.

Bunny loved to write. Bunny wrote a column titled “Back in the Day” for the Bristow News for over 20 years and continued to write until her hands would know longer allow her to do so. She leaves behind fond memories for all of those who knew her.

She was a faithful member of the First Church of God; serving her church family in many roles over the years, teaching Sunday School and contributing in countless other capacities. Her commitment to ministry was reflected in her steadfast faith and her heart for nurturing others.

Bunny was a bookkeeper, retiring in 1980. She was also member of the Bristow Round up Club, the Bristow Country Club, Women’s Missionary Society and a bowling league. She was one busy lady, but enjoyed every minute of her life. She loved not only writing all her stories of days gone by but she also loved gardening, crocheting, painting and playing games. She loved to laugh with you, at you, and sometimes just because.

Looking back over the last 100 years, Bunny said she saw memorable changes such as horse drawn covered wagons, the Model A’s and T’s, electricity, running water, outdoor toilets, the invention of the telephone, typewriters and computers. One can only imagine the changes that Bunny saw over her 100 years. Bunny’s words of wisdom to everyone “Work hard and treat others as you would like to be treated.”

Ms. Bunny was laid to rest on Monday July 6, 2026. A fond farewell to a true Bristownian, Ms. Bunny Baker.
