Board opts to not name building after former coach

At the Monday, May 14 meeting of the Bristow Public Schools Board of Education, a packed house watched and some participated as the board voted four to one to construct a pedestal plaque to honor the accomplishments of the Bill Scott era of Bristow football in lieu of naming the new weight room at Hafer Field after the former coach.

Eight members of the public spoke at the meeting, most in favor of naming the new weight room after Scott, and all former players or students. They spoke on how Scott was more like a father to them. Toni Godwin said Scott was a father to four of her brothers, who went on to play football at the next level, thanks to Scott.

“Coach Scott took my brothers under his wing and helped them to be better men,” she said.
