Lydia Barnett Taryole, 93, of Bristow, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026. She was born on June 17, 1933, to James and Lizzie Barnett in Clearview, , Oklahoma where she was raised with strong family values, deep community roots, and a love for life that never faded.
On Nov. 8, 1955, Lydia was united in marriage to Newman Taryole. Together they built a beautiful life grounded in love, faith, and family.Their union was blessed with five children: daughters Barbara, Norma “Shorty”, and Natalie, and sons Norman “Bungie” and Newman Jr. Lydia and Newman enjoyed over 68 years of marriage before his passing on January 18, 2024.
Lydia lived a full and joyful life. She loved playing softball, picking wild onions and blackberries, cheering on the Oklahoma City Thunder and Oklahoma Sooners Football, and most of all, watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren compete in their sporting events. Her presence in the stands was a constant source of pride and encouragement for generations of her family.
She is survived by four of her children: Barbara West, Natalie Hogner and husband Joe, Norman “Bungie” Taryole and wife Donna, and Newman Taryole and wife Laura; along with 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and two nephews she loved like sons, Thomas Barnett and Tyrone Barnett.
Lydia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Newman; her daughter, Norma Taryole; granddaughter, Carrie Annie Taryole; grandsons C.J. West and Jason Cook; son-inlaw Carl West; niece Thomasena Barnett; four brothers; and one sister.
Lydia’s life was defined by devotion, to her family, her community, and the traditions she cherished. She loved to feed everyone who visited her and if you did something good you earned an apple. Her legacy lives on in the countless memories she created and the love she poured into everyone blessed to know her.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, at the Bristow First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Taryole Family Cemetery.
