Helen Marie Miller, 82, of Bristow, passed away on Jan. 23, 2025. Shewas born on Aug. 1, 1942, in Milfay, to Silas and Bessie Skaggs.
Helen grew up in the Bristow area and attended Bristow Public Schools. On March 30, 1966, she married Paul Frank Miller, and together they shared 47 happy years of marriage, raising four children: Channiel, Angela, Kelley, and Lori, before Paul’s passing on April 27, 2013.
After Paul’s death, Helen returned to Bristow from Raytown, Missouri, where she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her beloved dogs. She had a wide range of hobbies, including quilting, cooking, crocheting, ceramics, and fishing. Helen also had a special fondness for watching westerns and shopping channels on television.
Helen is survived by her four children: Channiel Underwood and husband Teddy Jr., Angela Rust and husband Mark, Kelley Miller and wife Terri, and Lori Willis; one sister, Evelyn Jones; eight grandchildren: Heath Chapman, Josh Gantt, Jacob Gantt, Kelsey Lerma, Macy Shields, Tyler Miller, Walisi Underwood, and Teddy Joe Underwood III; nine greatgrandchildren; her sister-inlaw, Donna Skaggs; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, David and Michael Skaggs. Helen’s warmth, love, feistiness, and dedication to her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Funeral services were held for 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025, at the Trinity Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Magnolia Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Hutchins Maples Matherly Funeral Home.
