With Kris Wyatt now serving as mayor and recycling collection events no longer occurring due to the community having a permanent collection site, many Bristowans may not realize that the community still collects and sells recyclable materials.
Located at 1723 South Poplar Street, the Bristow Replenysh Network collection site accepts PETE 1 plastics, HDPE 2 plastics, PETE 1 thermoform containers, aluminum cans, cardboard, steel cans, and glass.
PETE 1 plastics, also known as PET 1 plastics, include items such as water, soda pop, and juice bottles, peanut butter containers, salad dressing bottles, and more. Clear and colored PETE 1 plastics are acceptable. PETE 1 thermoforms are also accepted; however, thermoforms need to be sorted separately from other PETE 1 plastics. Thermoforms include fruit and berry containers, salad containers, and containers encasing many bakery items. All thermoform plastics must be clear.
HDPE 2 plastics include thicker, heavier plastics often used to make detergent and fabric softener bottles, shampoo and other hygiene product bottles, and milk jugs. Multicolored HDPE 2 plastics are accepted for recycling through the Bristow Replenysh Network.
As with PETE 1 and HDPE 2 plastics, clear and colored glass items such as bottles and jars are accepted and may be dropped off for recycling.
Sorting cans proves easy if we recall what was in the can prior to consumption. Steel cans include most cans in which pet and human food was contained. Most aluminum cans previously contained beverages.
While cardboard is accepted for recycling, all recyclers are requested to remove all plastics, packing materials, and Styrofoam from cardboard prior to dropping off those items at the recycling site.
The Bristow Replenysh Network collection site is mostly run by two dedicated volunteers, Leann and Jim, who can often be found most mornings from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Because so few volunteers serve the site, all recyclers must pre-sort their recycling items appropriately. Additionally, no trash should be dropped off at any time. Please take refuse to Green Environmental Services at 614 Industrial Road for appropriate disposal during their operating hours only: Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check with Green Environmental regarding all applicable requirements and disposal fees.
Recycling volunteers wish to thank all recyclers for properly sorting items. They also wish to thank the many Bristow businesses who deliver their recyclables: Mid America Salebarn, Sonic, Bristow Tire & Auto, H & R Block, Napa Auto Parts, Dental Designs, Warren Clinic Bristow, Added Touch Florist, Corwin Family Dentistry, Bristow Social Services, and many more.
Leann Adkins, one of the site’s dedicated volunteers, noted that anyone with questions or interested in volunteering is welcomed to be at the site during those morning hours when she or Jim are working. Mostly, though, they simply want Bristowans to get involved and recycle.
