International comedy phenom seen in Bristow

Last Saturday, internationally known comedian Brad Upton stopped in Bristow for a brief visit. For context, his online performance content boasts more than 200 million views.

If his name sounds familiar locally, it should. The comedian left everyone in stitches back in October of 2021, when Onstage at the Freeland and Dr. Chip Cooper brought him to Bristow for the first time of his career.

In preparation for his performance, Onstage at the Freeland secured Venue 66 to showcase his talents for a more comedy club-like experience, offering adult beverages and hors d’oeuvres for ticket holders. The venue, food, and beverages were all hits, but everyone most loved the entertainment.

Local jazz artist Carmen Bruner opened while Dr. Cooper and Theron Perry accompanied her. Then, Upton took the stage and opened his act to sidesplitting laughter. The laughter only increased throughout the show. By night’s end, attendees wore semi-permanent laugh lines upon their faces.

Further, Bristowans were not the only ones to enjoy the show. Members of the audience that night drove to Bristow from other states and cities, including those who drove in from Kansas City.

So, why was he here last weekend? Upton performed in Tulsa at the Bricktown Comedy Club on Thursday and Friday. He was headed to Oklahoma City on Saturday morning to perform shows in Bricktown on Saturday and Sunday. He decided to drive Route 66 and take in a little sightseeing along the Mother Road. I had the pleasure of seeing him as he sat outside of Bro D’s, which was sadly closed to the dismay of Upton and myself.
